According to the Article 2(1) of Supplemental Provisions of Copyright Act (No. 3916, 1 July 1987) and Article 35(1), 36, 37, 37 of Copyright Act (No. 432, 1 July 1987), with the exceptions of photographs reproducing otherwise copyrighted works of art, and photographs inserted into a work of study or art and produced only for the purpose of inclusion within said work, photographs or other works of a similar form to photography either published or produced before 1 January 1977 are now in the public domain in the South Korea.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it meets three requirements:

  1. it was first published outside the United States (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days),
  2. it was first published before 1 March 1989 without copyright notice or before 1964 without copyright renewal or before the source country established copyright relations with the United States,
  3. it was in the public domain in its home country （大韓民國） on the URAA date (1 January 1996).
